Best Places to Visit In Italy
Back in 2019, before Covid, I had the pleasure of traveling to Italy. It was a lovely experience! I was there for two weeks, going from city to city. Advice, don’t bring a big suitcase, most of the cities have stone streets and no elevators. With that said, here’s the cities that I loved and would recommend visiting, plus what to do in that city.
First, Capri Island. I fell in love with the small island, I wish I had stayed there longer. You have to take a ferry to the island, which can be a boring experience, but it’s worth the wait. The beaches are so clear, you can see the fish, the people are so helpful, the food, and the views are life changing. Take a couple days to explore because the town is at the bottom of the island, the living spaces are located closer to the top of the islands, and there’s different beaches to hang out at. A must try food would be panini. It’s simple bread, tomato, and cheese, but it taste better than anything else you’d get in a different country.
Florence is a more historical part of Italy. It really is beautiful and with great food, no duh! I had a lamb dish where they fed the lamb wines and different herbs for taste. It was quite disappointing when I came back to America and the lamb didn’t taste like the ones in Italy. My family and I also ran into a Chinese restaurant that served some of the best chinese food I’ve ever tasted, many hidden gems! In Florence I suggest taking a cooking class, they’re all over the city. Also, you might get to witness a boat race! Of course, you have to visit the churches, just make sure you wear the appropriate clothing.
Venice is also on this list. It’s voted as one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, and they’re not wrong. The night life is gorgeous with every restaurant and pole lit up in beautiful lights. A great activity is being rowed in a beautiful boat down the rivers with Italian music streaming from all corners of the city. You can go to restaurants that are over the water with vines streaming up the building. This city also has great squid. I had it for the first time at a restaurant and now it’s one of my favorites. You can also go down alleys and find small shops and more music. It’s never ending!
I know you might be questioning why Rome isn’t on this list. Rome is nice but it’s like an older New York. There is a lot of trash scattered around and the food can be overpriced. I would stay in Rome for 2 days just to say you’ve been to Rome, but it’s not as glamorous as people make it out to be. Though, the airports are big with designer stores everywhere. It’s better to stay at the airport than in a hotel in the middle of Rome.
If you’re planning your trip, I hope you take these three cities into consideration. Italy is truly an eye-opening experience and great immersion into the culture. Just remember, do not bring a huge suitcase, it’ll make the trip harder. Take a backpack and a smaller suitcase, if you’re an over-packer. Enjoy your trip to Italy!
