The 96th Oscars | Recap & Review

This 2024 year, the Oscars had its 96th year with celebrities like Ryan Gosling singing “I’m Just Ken” with his all pink stage performance. Then there’s wrestling legend, John Cena, coming out almost nude! We know some of you wished he dropped the crotch cardboard. Now, let us talk about the nominees and winners of the 96th year, even if they’re just winners in our hearts.



The first category is… Best Picture. So many good choices! The nominees for this award were: 

  • American Fiction,

  • Anatomy of a Fall

  •  Barbie

  • The Holdovers

  • Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Maestro

  • Oppenhiemer

  • Past Lives

  • Poor Things

  • The Zone of Interest

Out of all these wonderful and well-crafted movies, Oppenheimer takes home Best Picture! The cinematography was out of this world, you can feel the creativity seep into your bones. Congratulations Oppenheimer!



The second category that night was… Best Actor In A Lead Role. Who do you think is going to win? The male nominees for the award were: 

  • Bradley Cooper in Maestro

  • Colman Domingo in Rustin

  • Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers

  • Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer

  • Jeffery Wright in American Fiction


This was such a close call but Cillian Murphy wins for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer. A well deserved win!


Now, we move on to the winner of Best Actor In A Supporting Role. There are 5 nominees in this category. Our

nominees are:

  • Sterling K. Brown in American Fiction

  • Robert De Niro in Killers of the Flower Moon

  • Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer

  • Ryan Gosling in Barbie

  • Mark Ruffalo in Poor Things


The winner in this category would be Robert Downey Jr. for his role in Oppenheimer as Lewis Strauss. We know his childhood isn’t the best but it’s refreshing to see him overcome his challenges. Congratulations Robert, we love you 3000!


Moving onto the women, the Best Actress In A Leading Role. The nominees are as followed:

  • Annetta Bening in Nyad

  • Lily Gladstone in The Color Purple

  • Sandra Huller in Anatomy of a Fall

  • Carey Mulligan in Maestro

  • Emma Stone in Poor Things



The winner for Best Actress in a Leading Role would be… Emma Stone from Poor Things. Congratulations Emma Stone, we loved your performance in this film and your oscar dress!


The second female category is Best Actress in a Supporting Role. This categories nominees include:

  • Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer

  • Danielle Brooks in The Color Purple

  • America Ferrera in Barbie

  • Jodie Foster in Nyad

  • Da’Vine Joy Randolph inThe Holdovers

The woman to take home this oscar was… Da’Vine Joy Randolph! She played Mary Lamb in the 2 hour movie The Holdovers. Congratulations to Da’Vine, can’t wait to see what you do next.
