The Walking Dead | The One's Who Live | Ep. 6- "The Last Time" Recap & Review
*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Well, for all intents and purposes, you would have thought this was a series finale. With the reunion at the end and what obviously seemed to be a time-jump. But first let's talk about how we got to the conclusion.
This episode more or less begins with Rick and Michonne's plan to infiltrate the CRM and stop what they're doing. What are they doing you ask? Well, we find out during Rick's debriefing with General Beale and Michonne's scouting the compound. During Rick's time with Beale, Beale reveals that the CRM has been finding out settlements and secure zones still being ran in bigger cities, for example Portland. The CRM infiltrates cities and settlements and "sacrifices" some to save another. As Beale put it, "I saved Philadelphia by sacrificing Pittsburgh." Simultaneously, Michonne ends up in a theater of sorts watching plans for the CRM's next move in Portland, which is get the kids evaluated and the rest.
Rick eventually kills Beale by lunging over the table and Michonne takes out some soldiers along the way as well. When they reconvene, we truly get to see the execution of their plan. They tie a bunch of grenades to Beale (now a walker) and another solider (also, now a walker). Eventually, Throne figures out what Richonne is up to and heads to the deploy point to stop them. She too becomes a necessary casualty as they have to take her out. Eventually the walker Beale and soldier do their jobs and all of the grenades go off, and I don't know how a tarp or whatever it was they pulled over themselves, protected them. It seemed like poison gas mixed with an explosion would overtake a tarp.
As Richonne make it on top of a big moving container, a narrator comes over like they're talking on a radio or a news station on a TV. They begin describing [paraphrasing] that the CRM is under new direction and instead of "sacrificing" cities to save other ones, is over. We see helicopters flying over forests with supply crates underneath. Eventually, Rick and Michonne themselves land in a wooden area. We see feet and legs of what seems to be children. This is the point where tears were in the eyes. Judith and RJ (Rick Jr.) emerge and they and Michonne begin running to each other. Rick seems a little tentative because Judith is so much older than he last saw her and didn't even know RJ existed.
The group embraces and I am a sucker for Walking Dead reunions. But much like Rick and Michonne finding each other in the very first episode of this series, I was not expecting this reunion. Which is why I am thinking this is/was a series finale. I am making this guess by not looking anything up. If it is a series finale, it did feel a bit rushed did it not? Especially for only six episodes. After hearing they nixed the Rick and Michonne movie, it would make sense that they had only planned on six episodes. But I hope not.
As far a giving this episode a grade, honestly I am leaving towards a B- to a C+. The only reason for this is of the "feel rushed" factor. The B- goes towards not only tugging at our heart strings, but seeing Rick and Michonne kick ass again is just pure beauty and entertainment. If it is the end of "The One's Who Live" chapter, I hope TWD minds that be think of something else with Andrew and Danai, which if we know TWD, they probably already have it in the works.
