The Week That Was | College Football Week 11 & NFL Week 10 Recap & Preview | NBA & College Basketball Season | Classic Throwback Game of The Week- 49ers vs Cowboys: November 13th 1994
The Week That Was in College Football was an upset filled one with #4 Miami and #3 Georgia losing respectively to unranked Georgia Tech and #16 Ole Miss. First Things First, the Miami Hurricanes have been playing with fire in terms of playing down to the competition especially against California where they trailed by 25 and still won the game by score of 39-38. There is a plethora of examples of Miami trailing by double digits and coming back to win but against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets it wasn't the case losing by score of 28-23.
Miami could not stop the rushing attack of Georgia Tech who ran for a grand total of 271 rushing yards meanwhile Miami’s rushing offense only could muster 88 yards. Defensively the Yellow Jackets sacked Quarterback Cam Ward of Miami 3 times despite Ward throwing for 348 yards and 3 touchdown passes. The defense of Miami was the main culprit because whenever Georgia Tech offense passed the ball Miami could forced a punt despite having a 3rd down and 18 scenario where Quarterback Aaron Philo completed a 27 yard pass play to Wide Receiver Bailey Stockton which resulted in a touchdown drive:28-16. Overall Miami is not a vintage Miami of yesteryear because they don't a championship caliber defense just an explosive offense led by Quarterback Cam Ward until they can become championship caliber Miami has to fix the defense.
Meanwhile, #3 Georgia lost by a landslide losing by score of 28-10. The Ole Miss defense was the catalyst by having 5 sacks, 9 tackles for loss and 4 forced fumbles. Quarterback Carson Beck of Georgia continues to struggle with his play by throwing an interception. So Georgia's playoff hopes could be at stake when they play against the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at home.
The college basketball season is here as the Connecticut Huskies are vying for an unprecedented 3 consecutive national championships which hasn't been accomplished since The John Wooden Era at UCLA(1967-1973). Yes there are teams that can knock off the Huskies like #1 Kansas, Houston and Duke keep your eyes on True Fabulous Freshman Cooper Flagg. The NBA Season is in full swing and how about those Cleveland Cavaliers who are still unbeaten at 13-0. Obviously it is a long season but with a new head coach in Kenny Atkinson things are brand new for the Cavs with Donovan Mitchell being a catalyst averaging 23.6 points a game. The Cleveland Cavaliers lead the NBA in scoring averaging 121.8 points a game and field goal percentage shooting 51.8 percent from the field. But come playoff time the Cleveland Cavaliers will have to show their mettle against the defending champion Boston Celtics only time will tell.
To start Week 11 in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles played at home against the Washington Commanders for the division lead on Thursday. The Eagles prevailed by winning by score of 26-18 led by the electrifying running of Running Back Saquan Barkley who scored 2 touchdowns including running for 146 yards on 26 carries. Now Barkley has 1,137 yards rushing which leads the league and 8 rushing touchdowns. The 197 carries from Barkley also leads the league. Moving forward to the best game of Week 11 which will be the 9-0 Kansas City Chiefs vs the 8-2 Buffalo Bills. The Bills will be at home for this matchup on Sunday at 4:25pm. Now let's look at the Classic Throwback Game of The Week:49ers vs Cowboys. This matchup was played at the old Candlestick Park in San Francisco on November 13th 1994. Meanwhile the Dallas Cowboys won 2 consecutive Super Bowls in 1992-1993 going for an unprecedented 3 consecutive Super Bowls including beating the San Francisco 49ers twice in the NFC Championship Game by score of 30-20 and 38-21.
The 49ers had to regroup and revamp their roster in getting free agents like Cornerback Deion Sanders. On November 13th 1994 these 2 teams played each where the Cowboys were 8-1 and the 49ers were 7-2. The 49ers broke a 7-7 tie in the third quarter when Quarterback Steve Young connected with Wide Receiver Jerry Rice for a 57 yards touchdown to give the 49ers a 14-7 lead that the Niners would not relinquished by winning by score of 21-14.
This matchup was the most important regular season his recent memory because the 49ers and Cowboys was the dominant teams in the NFL and they were rivals. They would eventually meet for the 3rd consecutive season in the NFC Championship Game and this time it was the 49ers marching towards the Super Bowl winning by score of 38-28. Then the San Francisco 49ers would win Super Bowl 29 against the San Diego Chargers in Miami by score of 49-26.
