The Week That Was | College Football Week 6 & NFL Week 5 Recap | MLB Playoffs Preview & Recap

The leadoff in this new article has to began with the Recap of MLB Baseball Playoff where the Amazing New York Mets continues their magic carpet ride by beating and upsetting the Philadelphia Phillies in 4 games: 3-1 to advance to the NLCS. The Mets should have swept the Phillies in this series because the Mets won Game 1 by score of 6-2 then in Game 2 the Mets had ample opportunities to win the game because the Mets got off to a 3-0 lead when Mark Vientos hit a 2 run homer then Pete Alonso hit a solo home run.But the Phillies rallied to take a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the top of the 9th inning,the Mets rallied by displaying their trademark resiliency when Vientos hit a game tying 2 run homer to tie the game at 6-6. But in the bottom half of the 9th, Nick Castellanos hit a walk off game winning single to tie the series up at 1-1.


The Mets outscored the Phillies the next 2 games:11-3 by winning 7-2 and 4-1. Francisco Lindor was the hero in Game 4 when he hit a grand slam which resulted in a series win for the Mets. The New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals in 4 games:3-1. The Yankees are in the ALCS to face either the Detroit Tigers or Cleveland who will be playing a winner take all Game 5 on October 12. The San Diego Padres and The Los Angeles Dodgers face each other in another winner take all on October 11th to face The New York Mets in NLCS.

Let's move forward to the Recap of The College Football from last Saturday where there were upsets galore starting with #1 Alabama losing to unranked Vanderbilt on the road by score of 40-35. Then #4 Tennessee lost on the road against unranked Arkansas by score of 19-14. Tennessee Quarterback Nico Iamaleava seems to lose track of situational football on 4th down where he scrambled and ran out of bounds as time expired. History was made with these 2 losses where you have to go way back to October 6th 2012 where #4 LSU and #5 Georgia lost on the same day from the same conference as 2 top 5 teams.


Also in 2004, on October 30th 2004 #4 Miami and #5 Florida State lost on the same day from the same conference as 2 top 5 teams. What do these teams who lost have in common losing to unranked teams. Other upsets was #9 Missouri loses on the road to #25 Texas A&M by score of 41-10. #22 Louisville lost to SMU by score of 34-27. The defending champion Michigan Wolverines lost in an upset to the Washington Huskies in a rematch of last year's national championship game: 27-17. #11 USC lost on the road to Minnesota: 24-17.


The only top 10 team that didn't get upset on Saturday was the #8 Miami Hurricanes who trailed on the road at California:35-10 in the second half. But despite a pick 6 thrown by Quarterback Cam Ward, he was able overcome that with 3 touchdown drives including the final drive where Miami’s offense had to go 92 yards on 6 plays which began with a big pass play of 77 yards from Cam Ward to Wide Receiver Xavier Restrepo then the touchdown came later with a pass play from Ward to Tight End Elijah Arroyo to give the Canes a 39-38 lead and win. Moving forward in Week 7 keep eyes on #2 Ohio State vs #3 Oregon a monumental matchup including top ranked #1 Texas vs archrival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. #9 Ole Miss vs #13 LSU and may be an upset alert possibility: #4 Penn State vs USC.


Now the recap of the week that was for NFL Week 5. As the second quarter of the 2024 NFL season began, the theme of surprising wins continued for example the Arizona Cardinals beat The San Francisco 49ers on the road by score of 24-23. As the 49ers fell to a record of 2-3. Then the New York Giants went to Seattle and beat the Seahawks by score of 29-20. Quarterback Daniel Jones continued to play exceptional for another week:23-34 257 yards 2 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions. Jones has thrown for 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions so far this season despite the absence of Wide Receiver Rookie Sensation Malik Nabers who had a concussion including the absence of Running Back Devin Singletary who had a groin injury. Wide Receiver Darius Slayton had a big game by catching 8 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown catch. 

Defensively the Giants defense was a force by sacking Quarterback Geno Smith 7 times including 3 sacks by Defensive Tackle Dexter Lawrence who now has 6 sacks on the season. The New York Giants defense leads the league with 22 sacks. The Baltimore Ravens beat The Cincinnati Bengals in overtime by score of 41-38 as Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw 4 touchdowns and in defeat Quarterback Joe Burrow threw 5 touchdowns. The Houston Texans beat the Buffalo Bills by score of 23-20. The Minnesota Vikings are still unbeaten at 5-0 after beating the New York Jets:23-17 which resulted in the sudden firing of Head Coach Robert Saleh.


On Monday Night Football, the Kansas City Chiefs are still unbeaten at 5-0 as well with a home win against the New Orleans Saints: 26-13. Moving forward to Week 6 keep eyes on Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys matchup, Washington Commanders face the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills vs New York Jets on Monday Night.


Offensive Player of The Week: Quarterback Kirk Cousins of Atlanta Falcons:40-58 509 yards touchdown passes and 1 interception. Opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Defensive Player of The Week: Defensive Tackle Dexter Lawrence of New York Giants: 3 sacks against Seattle Seahawks
