The Week That Was | Recap of College Football Week 4 | Preview of Week 5 | NFL Week 3 Recap | Preview of Week 4 | Plus Ohtani Makes History
The Week That Was in College Football for Week 4 was intriguing especially the USC/Michigan tilt at the Big House at Michigan Stadium. Michigan’s offense didn't rely on the passing game but was truly effective in the running game by running for 290 yards. Running Back Kalel Mullings of Michigan ran for 159 yards on 17 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Running Back Donovan Edwards of Michigan made a contribution in the ground game rushing for 74 yards on 14 carries including a rushing touchdown. Michigan won a close one by score of 27-24. A breath of fresh air to see the Wolverines and the Trojans on the same field in the regular season as the Michigan Wolverines displayed championship mettle but the offense from a passing game perspective can't be a liability but a reliability as Quarterback Alex Orji only threw for 32 yards moving forward Michigan's offense has to be better in the passing game department. How about those Tennessee Volunteers? The Volunteers traveled to Norman, Oklahoma and won a SEC tilt by score of 25-15. Coach Josh Heupel of Tennessee returned to Oklahoma where he won a national championship at Oklahoma in 2000.
It was a sweet victory for Heupel personally because he was fired as offensive coordinator when he was on the Oklahoma coaching staff after the 2014 season. There were a few upsets like Buffalo beating #23 Northern Illinois by score of 23-20 in overtime. Also, #13 Kansas State lost on the road to BYU:38-9. Moving forward into the new week of College Football for Week 5 keep your eyes obviously on the game of the day maybe the game of the year :#2 Georgia vs #4 Alabama. Georgia comes into this matchup with a 42-game regular season winning streak along with a 16 game road winning streak including a 28 game SEC winning streak against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Keep your eyes on the Georgia defense vs the Alabama offense because the Georgia defense has not allowed an offensive touchdown including only allowing 91.3 yards per game led by Safety Extraordinaire Malaki Starks. Alabama Quarterback Jalen Milroe will provide a true test against the vaunted defense of Georgia because Milroe has thrown 8 touchdowns and no interceptions. Jalen can run as well as throw with 6 rushing touchdowns so far in the season. Overall Georgia wins this one by a close margin due to championship pedigree and the art of winning.
For the recap of the NFL in Week 3 how about Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings who are 3-0 which is amazing because the Vikings was picked to finish in last place by the NFL experts. Sam Darnold threw 4 touchdowns so he has 8 touchdown passes on the season so he may be frontrunner for MVP. The Vikings won 34-7 against the Houston Texans.
The Baltimore Ravens finally won a game on the road against the Dallas Cowboys winning 28-25 led by Running Back Derrick Henry of Baltimore Ravens who ran for 151 yards on 25 carries and 2 touchdowns which was vintage Henry. This is why the Ravens acquired Henry to have games like this. The Rams overcame a double digit deficit to win at home against the 49ers winning 27-24. The Chiefs won 22-17 on the road against the Atlanta Falcons but the storyline is Tight End Travis Kelce who has been un Kelce like in terms of underperforming under his standards as a great Tight End. Kelce only caught 4 passes for only 30 yards overall Kelce has 8 catches for 69 yards and 0 touchdown catches.
Moving forward into Week 4 keep your eyes on games like Vikings vs Packers, Eagles vs Buccaneers, Chiefs vs Chargers, Bills vs Ravens and Seahawks vs Lions. Week 3 Offensive Player of The Week Quarterback Sam Darnold of Minnesota Vikings 17-28 181 yards 4 touchdown passes against the Houston Texans. Defensive Player of The Week Linebacker Jonathan Greenard of the Minnesota Vikings had 3 sacks & 3 tackles for loss against the Houston Texans.
In MLB Baseball Shohei Ohtani Makes History with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases was achieved against the Miami Marlins with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. Finally September 24th 1994 was a memorable vintage moment in college football annals when the Miracle at Michigan took place as Quarterback Kordell Stewart of Colorado threw a hail mary to Wide Receiver Michael Westbrook as Colorado won 27-26 at Michigan which resulted Westbrook being on the cover of Sports Illustrated for October 3rd 1994 included in the same issue was the Whammy In Miami as the Washington Huskies upset the Miami Hurricanes winning by score of 38-20 snapping the longest home winning streak in college football history: 58 consecutive home wins. 2 great moments in college football annals on September 24th 1994.
