Trouble in Arrowhead
The Kansas City Chiefs just lost to the 7-8 Raiders led by rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell. Not only did they lose this game, but they also lost their 1-way ticket to hosting the Arrowhead Invitational for consecutive years. If the season ended today, the Kansas City Chiefs would have to play the hot Buffalo Bills; honestly, I don’t like their chances.
What is strange about the Chiefs is that their strong suit has changed. The Chiefs used to be an electric offense consistently in the top 5 with a mediocre defense, but the roles have switched this year. According to Fox Sports the Chiefs rank 2nd in defense, but only 9th in offense. They are 12th in Points Per Game and it isn’t going to get better.
The problem with the offense isn’t Patrick Mahomes. The problem is the lack of production from Travis Kelce and the amount of drops the receiving core has. The Chiefs rank number 1 in passes dropped this year, many coming in the crucial moments of games. Including Travis Kelce they do not have a 1,000-yard receiver yet meanwhile, there are teams with multiple 1,000-yard receivers 16 weeks into the season.
Considering how late we are into the season there isn’t anything the Chiefs could do to help improve this offense. Rashee Rice being your go-to option in a deep playoff run doesn’t sound ideal. To make the Superbowl the Chiefs would have to get through either the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills, or the Baltimore Ravens who are coming off a 14-point win against the 49ers. If you have Chiefs stock for this season I suggest you sell it.
