What we learned from the NFL in Week 6

A wild Week 6 that began with a Chiefs win over the Denver Broncos ended with a…

After the dust settled in the Monday night game, we take a look at the five biggest takeaways from Week 6 across the league.

1. Brock Purdy and the 49ers are fallible

After blowing out the Dallas Cowboys in Santa Anna, the San Francisco 49ers came into Cleveland undefeated and seemingly unbeatable. The Cleveland Browns proved to be the toughest test for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Co. since the 2022 NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Purdy threw his first interception of the season, and San

Francisco may lose two of their best offensive weapons (Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffery) for an unknown amount of time. The kicking game of the 49ers also was a problem against the Browns, as kicker Jake Moody missed two field goals, including the potential game- winner.

2. What will the Titans do at quarterback?

In London, the Tennessee Titans not only suffered a 24-16 loss, but also may have lost quarterback Ryan Tannehill for an unspecified amount of time, when he was carted off with an ankle injury in the third quarter. After the game, Tannehill was on crutches. The Titans do have a bye week in Week 7, but if Tannehill is gone for longer than just two weeks, Tennessee will turn to backups Malik Willis and Will Levis in the interim. Willis finished the game four-of-five for 74 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in Tannehill’s stead. With the Titans already at the bottom of the AFC South, it will be interesting to see who the team will turn to if the injury to Tannehill is a serious one.

3. More quarterback injuries across the NFL

The NFL always has its share of injuries to star players, but this year, there seems to be a high number of quarterback injuries than previous years. First, it was Aaron Rodgers, and now several quarterbacks found themselves out in Week 6. Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, Ryan Tannehill, Daniel Jones, Deshawn Watson, among others. What is happening to the leagues’ best signal- callers in 2023?

4. Dallas rebounded against the Chargers on Monday Night Football

After being humiliated by the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys came back on the national stage against the Los Angeles Charger, and beat them, 20-17. Dak Prescott ran for a touchdown and passed for another, and the defense looked like the dominant unit it was in the first few weeks of the season. The big question is, will this rebound continue against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7, or will this win be just smoke and mirrors?

5. Week 7 has several big divisional matchups

There are quite a few divisional games in Week 7, some that could help determine draft order in 2023 or have playoff implications. Among the games this week are Buffalo vs. New England, Washington vs. New York, Atlanta vs. Tampa Bay, Arizona vs. Seattle and the LA Chargers vs. Kansas City. Some of these games could have significant importance in the future playoff picture.
